Celebrating MBC Pilates!
Hello,
MBC Pilates, formerly known as Mind-Body Connection Pilates, is celebrating 15 years in business as of April 1. I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come—growing, adapting, and thriving over the years. My deepest gratitude goes out to everyone who has been a part of this journey, whether as a client or collaborator, and to all who have experienced my unique approach to Pilates.
What makes my approach to Pilates unique?
My journey began as a comprehensively certified Balanced Body Pilates instructor, later earning my NCPT (Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher) credential. I’ve focused my continuing education on helping clients move better, live pain-free, increase flexibility, build strength, and—most importantly—maintain and improve their balance.
That last goal—enhancing balance—led me to The Neuro Studio five years ago, where I embarked on a new chapter. There, I learned that balance is created by three key neurological systems: Visual, Vestibular, and Proprioceptive. For good balance, at least two of these systems need to be functioning well. And I learned how to use individualized sensory input to improve movement outcomes. This knowledge has transformed MBC Pilates into a practice that’s more effective, intuitive, and personalized, all while staying rooted in Pilates principles.
The Core of MBC Pilates
At MBC Pilates, we use Pilates exercises and equipment while integrating the body’s neurological systems. I also love incorporating cues that target the cerebellum—the part of the brain that processes information from the central nervous system and coordinates movement. Think of it as the “thinking” center for movement, though it doesn’t always make the best choices! By allowing the cerebellum to make decisions, then encouraging it to adapt, you can experience new and different movement patterns. The brain thrives on novelty, which is why I enjoy offering options and constraints in our sessions. I prefer not to give you all the answers—I want to see what choices you make!
Reflexive Stability: The Foundation
Before anything else, I always start with reflexive stability in one of the body’s four key quadrants. During warm-up, it’s vital that clients can reflexively stabilize at one of the most mobile joints—the left and right hip joints, and the left and right glenohumeral (shoulder) joints. True mobility stems from good stability, and stability isn’t static—it’s an active response to movement. Without reflexive stability, we risk pain, limited movement, and discomfort—sometimes not during the movement itself, but afterward.
As I look forward to the years ahead, my commitment remains the same: to provide a supportive, innovative, and personalized Pilates experience that empowers each client to move with confidence and stability. Whether you’re new to Pilates or a longtime member of the MBC Pilates community, I am honored to be part of your wellness journey. Thank you for trusting me with your movement and for being a vital part of this incredible 15-year adventure. Here’s to continued growth, discovery, and balance—together!
